5 Steps to Help Beat the January Blues

 

After a season of parties, glamour & indulgences, heading into a month of no-alcohol, long pay months, salad-based meals and nothing to look forward to for another few cold, dark months may feel bleak. But do not fear! With these simple steps you can beat the January blues and give yourself a much-needed positive pick me up. Remember New Year, New Me is what you make of it.

 

  1. Go Outside

 

You may be doing dry-January or still nursing the wound in your wallet from the Christmas spend haul, but regular walks can do wonders for your mental health & productivity; Low winter sun can be quite beautiful and refreshing when cooped up the dark stuffy indoors. It can help to regulate our sleep patterns and costs nothing!

 

  1. Try New Things

It can be very easy to fall into a Netflix and Chill season, hiding away from the world staying in your comfort zone. But shying away from difficult situations can create social anxieties and hesitation. Try to push to bat out, try a new hobby or activity you’ve always wanted to do, learn a new skill, sign up for that run you’ve always wanted to do; stimulate your mind with excitement and potential.

 

  1. Plan a Holiday

The best thing about January is the sales, everyone is flogging last year’s stock and so you can get some real bargains, and what better to excite the new year than to book a holiday! From planes, to trains, journeys can be half the price which makes your bucket list even more achievable. Having something to look forward to will really boost morale during the cold months.

 

  1. Self – Care

 

After all the parties and rich food & drink you will have consumed over the festive season, your body may have taken its toll. Take advantage of the lack of social events and take time out to pamper, detox and give your body the TLC it deserves. Get your friends round and pamper together. From skincare to health kicks, you will start to feel more confident in yourself if you take time for you.

  1. Exercise

 

It very common in January for people to join up to local gyms and  classes but exercise has a great effect on not only your physical health, but your mental health too. You may not want to go, but science has repeatedly proven that exercise releases endorphins (your body’s feel-good hormones) and lifts your mood after completion.

As it is a very common thing for people to do at the beginning of the year, you may be faced with very busy gyms, but it always fades out by spring. It will also help to detox from the indulgent meals you may have demolished over Christmas.
