Strictly’s Johannes Radebe Felt ‘so liberated’ to Perform Same Sex Routine

Strictly’s Johannes Radebe Felt ‘so liberated’ to Perform Same Sex Routine

The South African professional dancer broke boundaries yet again in last night’s results show, pro dance after performing an inspirational same sex dance routine.

Head judge Shirley Ballas told Digital Spy that viewers should 'have their tissues ready' ahead of the ground breaking performance.

'All I can say is have your tissues ready. It's the most magnificent thing I have witnessed in rehearsals.’

The 32-year-old felt honoured to perform with his best friend Graziano Di Prima, 25, during Emeli Sande’s performance of her new single.

'I've never felt so liberated. For the first time in my life, I feel accepted for who I am.’

'That says so much about the people of this country. To be able to dance with a friend I respect and adore is joyous.’

'There's bromance galore between us, but there were no male and female roles, just free movement. It was beautiful, classy and elegant.' – He explained to Hello Magazine.

The professional dancer made his strictly debut this year with corrie star Catherine Tyldesley as his celeb partner but was sadly voted out last weekend in a controversial dance off with Mike & Katya (who survived their 3rd dance this weekend).

Johannes said 'Aunty Cath, as I call her, has been supportive of me from the start. It was my first time to be paired with a dance partner and I didn't want to fail her.’

'That was my biggest fear. I wanted to make sure I gave her the best experience of her life. But I was so lucky to be paired up with the UK's sweetheart. She was on Team Johannes from day one. She made me believe in myself more.

'All of a sudden it was like, just be who you are; don't worry about anything. It's so lovely to be embraced for who I am, to not have to hold back.'

Catherine said: 'We just clicked from the start. As well as being a wonderful teacher, he has the most genuine beautiful soul.

'He's kind, honest and giving with everyone he meets, and I trust him implicitly. I tell him stuff I wouldn't tell most people. We're friends for life and I feel so grateful to have found him.'

The reaction Johannes has been making on social media is ginormous with the majority of viewers backing Strictly’s new direction on the traditional dance.

Ex-pro Dancer James Jordan has however caused a ripple in the Strictly community, refusing to back the South African’s performances, causing viewers to brand him as homophobic.

When asked about the new coupling on ITV's This Morning, James answered that by getting two men to dance with each other, the BBC1 series would be just "ticking boxes".

He continued: "It would be a joke couple. People wouldn't take it seriously, it would have to be comedy value. I don't think it would be two men doing the sexy rumba with each other. I don't think it would work."

This is the second year we have seen professional dancers perform iconic same sex routines and Craig Revel Horwood has announced that we could see pro/celeb same sex couples as early as next year!

This comes after Dancing on Ice have confirmed that they will be demonstrating their first ever same sex couple in this year’s ice season.
