Phillip Schofield Takes a Brave Stand & Comes Out as Gay
Award-winning and much-loved ITV presenter Phillip Schofield, was seen on the opposite side of the This Morning Sofa today, as he bravely announced that he has been hiding his true sexuality after 27 years of marriage.
With the support of his co-host & on-screen friend, Holly Willoughby, the 57-year-old admitted that he had struggled with coming to terms with his conflict for the past few years and it was time for him to be brave.
Just ahead of the special introduction of the Friday Episode, Schofield shared a statement on his social media, announcing that he is gay and how overwhelmed he was with the love and support around him and wife Steph.
During his short appearance on This Morning today, which came on a day he and Holly are usually off, Phil confirmed he wasn't being pressured into coming out.
"This is absolutely my decision. It was something I knew that I had to do," he told Holly, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford.
Holly held his hand on the sofa and told him’ This is a big day,’ and followed with, ‘We will do this together’.
Phillip explained on the ITV Daytime show how he told his family and how supportive each and every one of them have been. ‘It’s okay, it’s okay’ they told him, ‘We love you’.
‘There’s no question it causes pain, and it causes upset,’ referring to his wife, Steph of 27 years, ‘We have never had any secrets.’
‘We’ve gone through this together’
‘I can’t write in any statement what I feel about that woman,’ ‘She is amazing.’
He then finished his interview by thanking his family at ITV and gesturing to Holly, ‘I especially couldn’t have done this without you’. Before Eamon & Ruth joined them for a supportive cuddle, during which a few tears were shed.
This huge moment for Philip Schofield may just be the green light that others need to come out themselves.
