Laura Whitmore Pays Touching Tribute to Friend Caroline Flack at Love Island Final

Love Island presenter, Laura Whitmore held back the tears in last night’s Winter Sun Final as she paid tribute to her friend and former presenter, Caroline Flack who tragically took her own life last week.

Before this year’s winners were announced between finalists, Paige & Finn and Siannise & Luke T, the ITV2 host lead a moving tribute in the form of a showreel to Caroline who had presented the show since its return in 2015.

Whitmore began to choke up as she, told viewers at home how ‘difficult’ the past week has been for her and the Love Island team. Laura said: ‘Caroline loved Love Island and that’s why tonight’s final is dedicated to her.’

Many fans of the show took to social media to express how touching Laura’s dedication was and that her friend would be proud of her.

Boyfriend of the current host of Love Island and also the show’s narrator, Ian Stirling, also read out his own heart-warming tribute to his former colleague on the first show back after Caroline’s death on Saturday 15th February.

As the show started in silence, the cameras focused on a beach as Iain said: ‘We are all absolutely devastated by the tragic news that Caroline, a much-loved member of our Love Island family, has passed away. ‘Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this dreadful time.’

Speaking about their time together, he said: ‘Caroline and me, we were together from the very start of Love Island, and her passion, warmth and infectious enthusiasm were a crucial part of what made the show connect with millions of viewers.’

‘Like many of you, right now we’re all just trying to come to terms with what has happened. My only hope is that we can all try and be kinder, always show love, and listen to one another.’ ‘Caroline, I want to thank you for all the fun times we had making our favourite show. You were a true friend to me,’ Iain added.

In a final heart-breaking moment, his voice broke as he said: ‘I’m gonna miss you, Caz.’

Singer and former ex, of Lewis Capaldi, Paige Turley took the Love Island 2020 crown along with boyfriend Finn Tapp in last night’s show. Capaldi joked about his ex at the Brits last week, claiming that his song ‘Someone you loved’ was not about a certain ex that is currently in Love Island but actually about his gran who passed away.

He also joked that he deserved a cut of the money if she won, "The prize is like £50,000 and I'll be like 'Well, listen. They asked you to go on it right I'm not saying I'm the reason but also… slide me two grand'." – Looks like you’re getting a pay-out Lewis!
