So it is finally here, the moment us marvel enthusiasts have been waiting years to arrive. The ultimate battle, the final fight, The Avengers Endgame.
Over the past few years we have caught sight of a huge rise in the importance of women in the TV and Film industry. We have seen a female doctor in Doctor who, an all female lead cast in an Ocean’s franchise, don’t forget the all female lead Ghostbusters return ! And now Marvel are handing the fate of of their biggest sequence of films to a strong independent woman, Captain Marvel. Do I smell a potential female 007 in the air?
Now throughout the Avengers saga we have witnessed some pretty inspirational women with impressive power and strength. We’ve seen Black Widow at her finest as badass Russian Assassin to her softer more sensitive side when we saw her open up to Bruce Banner about her infertility and the incredible transformation of Scarlet Witch, starting from a timid girl, fearful of her own capabilities and living under her brothers shadow to one of the most powerful allies in the Avengers plus many more.
If you’re still reeling from Infinity War or like me you cannot put yourself through the trauma of watching it again. Here’s a quick recap.
Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers reunite and team up with some new friends, including The Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange and Black Panther to battle their most powerful enemy to date, the almighty Thanos. On a mission to track down all six Infinity Stones, Thanos plans to use the gems to inflict terror on all humanity. After 22 films, everything the Avengers have ever faced has led to this crucial moment, the fate of existence itself is in jeopardy.
But despite their best efforts and the best super hero group to date, Thanos discovers all infinity stones and completes his Infinity Gauntlet. Resulting in the most traumatising scene in super hero history as we watch half our favourite superhero’s turn to dust. The devastating list of the deceased includes;
- Loki (Thor)
- Heimdall (Thor)
- Gamora (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Vision (Avengers)
- King C’halla (Black Panther)
- Doctor Strange
- Drax (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Falcon (Avengers)
- Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Mantis (Guardians of the Galaxy)
- Bucky Barnes (Captain America)
- Nick Fury (Avengers)
- Peter Quill/Star Lord (Guardians of the Galaxy
- Shuri (Black Panther)
- Hope Van Dyme (Ant Man & the Wasp)
Could this ending be any more horrifying?
So now we are here, leading into Avengers Endgame with full throttle and a belly full of revenge!
At first there seems like no hope for our remaining Avengers. But when all is lost, we are given Carol Danvers in our in between film, Captain Marvel, a top gun style female fighter pilot with bad ass radioactive powers.
This Heroine can literally do anything she sets her incredible mind to. After having her mind completely wiped and turned into an intergalactic weapon. This women is taking no prisoners ! Right now, she is the Avengers only hope of survival.
In the end credits we witness Nick Fury, just before turning to dust, call Captain Marvel for help.
Now for 25 years since we last saw Carol Danvers in her grunge look 90’s film, Nick Fury has never contacted anybody else for help. Surely this is a giant endorsement in itself!
But in Carol Danvers own words, ‘I have nothing to prove to you’ demonstrates a tenacity that she does not and will never need reassurance of her capabilities. Brie Larson, the talented actress who portrays our empowering super heroine, spoke to Press Reader and stated ‘She is incredible in breaking barriers and doing amazing things even before she had super powers,”- The confidence and mental strength this woman emanates is unreal and if this doesn’t inspire every young girl in the world, I don’t know what will.
Team her up with one grieving Black Widow and the rest of the remaining Avengers and you have a driving force that is unstoppable.
Thanos look out because the Avengers are coming!
